ST FRANCIS CLERGY

Reverend Doctor Kevin Ellis

Vicar St Michael's Bartley Green

Kevin has just taken up the post as the local Parish Vicar in Bartley Green. He gets great enjoyment out of working with young people and the community in many ways, as well as being a learned theologan.

Kevin is a Sheffielder by birth, growing up on an outer council estate called Shiregreen, famous only because parts of ‘The Full Monty’ were filmed there. He studied theology in Newcastle, Manchester and London before teaching theology in Cheltenham and Gloucester. Kevin trained for ordination at Queen’s Birmingham, and served a curacy in Matson, Gloucester before moving to west Cumbria firstly as Team Vicar, and latterly Team Rector of the Maryport, Netherton and Flimby Team Ministry. Apart from in the realms of theological education, prior to his ordination, Kevin worked variously as an evangelist, a sales assistant and then assistant manager in a Newsagents and as a ‘mystery store-checker’, where he delighted into going into well-known shops making purchases and then taking them all back the following day!

Kevin is passionate about making the Christian faith accessible, delights in making Church life inclusive and enjoyable, and tends to relax (or not) by following the fortunes of the England Test Team.

In Gloucester, Kevin discovered that he enjoyed youth work to his profound surprise. In Maryport, he developed a reputation for excellent schools work and for bringing people together as they worked to rejuvenate west Cumbria. Kevin is now looking forward with anticipation as to what God might do in Bartley Green and the Woodgate Valley.
